I use Onetel 24 hours Anytime 12.99 per month. I've almost hardly ever had problems with it in 2 years. That's all I pay, no extras to BT or anything. Not intrusive like Freeserve who do litter your registry etc.
I 've found AOL to be a very user friendly and family orientated ISP. They have a good system of restrictions and filters for when the kids are on line, I have never come accross 'adult' sites by accident, and never had a problem getting connected. Their search engine wasn't up to much but they recently changed it so it now goes to Google. I suppose it depends what sites you go to but I hardly get any spam and have never had any signs of a virus (I dont have any anti-virus software and only run virus checker every six months or so) Maybe I've just been lucky but I would recomend AOL as an isp despite all the advice I got telling me AOL was cr@p, suppose it depends what your looking for.
I'm now using Tiscali broadband, all their packages are very good with very stable connections, www.tiscali.co.uk
Telewest!!! They've cut me off 3 times by accident and the support staff were useless for getting me back online (apart from one lad who done it in seconds... good man!) but they are the best i've seen. been with em 3 year and had their 1mb connection for about 6 months. 1mb pipe for 30.... champion
try http://www.ispreview.co.uk for starters.
