Hi, just wondered if any one could help me. Iv used ebay for the last year, mainly buying small items. Iv also sold two baby outfits.. I dont think I have ever done anything wrong or illegal. Yet I keep getting emails saying my account will be terminated indefinately if I cause financial loss to me or anyone else..It tells me I have to update me account information. I have changed my passwords, but whilst im logged on to ebay.. it doesnt give me any prompts to do anything else.. and my account has not been terminated. Is this some kind of scam, or have I done something really dumb unwittingly!! Thankyou for your time x

It sounds very suspicious and should therefore be treated with caution. I recently got these threatening emails from Ebay that were apparantly from a member saying that I didnt pay them for this item I was meant to have purchased then further action will be taken. I'm not even a member of Ebay and have never used it in my life!

After about 6 emails like this, i forwarded the emails to the official Ebay Support Centre who confirmed that these had nothing to do with Ebay and were in fact a hoax. What some con-artists do is to send emails to people that mimic the layout set by "brand" organisations in an attempt to get you to clink on their link. Another classis example is the Barclays and Halifax emails I have been getting telling me it's time to re-register my account details with them....even though i don't have account with either!

If you are concerned, forward your emails to Ebay and they will advise you what to do promptly.

These emails are not from ay and should not be responded to. Ebay will never ask for any details through an email and any email sent to you from ebay will also appear in your messages in ebay. Downloading the ebay toolbar can also be a good idea as it has an account gurd which goes red if the email is not from ebay. Hope this helps, jon

as with all emails that threaten to take action against you or your account for a bank you don't have an account with, you should tell them all the information that is requested and then sit back and watch all your money disappear!!!!

this works wonders and you can feel secure in the knowledge that you have helped a scammer avoid the poverty trap! gives you a warm feeling all over doesn't it?

alternativly, just delete them without even opening them, e-bay will have any messages on your "my e-bay " page anyway.

if they are genuine they will show up in your my ebay messages as well as your e-mail,but only in your e-mail if they are spoofs.the idea is that when you click on respond now in your e-mail it triggers a key logger to track your passwords as you log in to ebay.

so to be safe only answer messages in your my ebay and never reply to them in your email.

This sounds like a classic example of phishing, whereby you are tricked into giving your bank account details, amongst other things; next thing you know your bank account has been cleaned out. Delete these things without even thinking about them, bona fide companies (Ebay, Pay Pal, banks etc.) don't send emails like this.

There is an organisation that is worth a look called Fraudwatch International ( www.fraudwatchinternational.com ) that are building up a database of all the scams, phishing & other types of fraud that are doing the rounds, you can forward on to them any suspect emails you get & they will check it out/add it to the database. Also they will alert you of any new scams that are surfacing.
