I recently bought a Packard Bell PC. When i finally got it home after about a month of waiting I found that it was running very slow and some of the pre installed programs were not working correctly.
I created my backup disk and selected "keep my back up files on hard drive" (or what ever it was). Once the backup disks were created I ran a system recovery from the hard drive (not backup disk). During the recovery there was an error, I tried again but the recovery files were lost. I then ran a system recovery from the backup disks but i couldnt run a destructive recovery. I eventually got it working but found my old user files still on the hard drive (about 8gb worth) but cudnt access them.
So my question is:
Is there anyway of transferring the recovery files from the backup disk onto the hard hard drive again and run a destructive recovery?
OR
If i was to format my pc in dos (using old dos disks) could i then run the recovery program from the back up disks and would everything work fine? or would i have to fine CD drivers from somewhere?

If all you want to do is be able to access your old files try http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810881 which deals with the problem of accessing old files after reinstalling.
It may solve your problem.
But since it is running slowly and you have problems with pre-installed programs, I would be taking it back and telling the seller to fix all the problems and not accepting it until they are fixed.
