I recently purchased a new Sharp DV-RW250 video/dvd combo and am having problems with the dvd player. Initially it worked perfect but when I tried to play a Region 1 dvd it started playing up. The dvd player made a noise as if it was trying to recognise the dvd but could not. This kept on for several minutes until I removed the dvd. Ever since then I have not been able to play and dvds although the video section works perfect. Has anyone encountered anything similar or have any suggestions?

sounds like a problem with the laser block, especially if it won't play a number of your discs of the correct region. probably impossible that playing adisc of anothe region would cause the unit any damage. if so, take it back for a refund. .
