mobile phone batteries

anyone got any tips on how to make these last a bit longer?

I've got an old siemens c25 that i haven't used for years, but when i tried to charge nothing at all happening - not even the 'charging' icon.

i have left it charging over night and still nothing.

i have heard stuff like put it in the fridge etc but does anyone know anything?

i don't want to buy a new battery in case its the phone not the battery that is damaged.
if i can get it working, even just for 5 minutes, i can make sure everything else is working before getting a new battery
