Buying from amazon.
7 Answers
I am abut to buy a digital camera from amazon. The seller is Amazon, rather than a retailer or other. The price is 180, which is 65 cheaper than Argos and 80 cheaper than theSony shop in town. I've checked the description and it is new. How come its so cheap? Am I taking any risks with this purchase?

Also you can be happy also that buying of Amazon registered Sellers is also safe because they don't get your card details as that is all handled via Amazon.
As for the price, Sony Shops are a total rip off, always have been. Argos tend to offer a discount because they don't waste shop floor space on displays, in a simiar way Amazon have much cheaper costs because they don't have shops which are very expensive to run.
There could be other reasons such as Amazon buying the Camera in such high numbers that the producer gave them a large initial discount.

it's probably going to drop in price everywhere (argos may have dropped it already but obviously thay can't change the print in the catalogue you have at home) so check it. Sony shops tend to sell at rrp.
just out of interest.... if it is a dsc-w5 and you can get to a makro (you need to have a card and be in business to get one) it is 152.73 inc vat. It's a nice camera too. (i worked for jessops until a few months ago)
now that jessops is a plc they are less easy going on price matches. (it's now up to the manager, it's not company policy) if you buy a few items like a bag (good profit) extended warranty (the branches have a target and there is good profit) spare battery, memory card (not so much profit)etc. (so they can make some profit) they may do a nice deal for you. but its unlikely they will just sell you a camera for a stupid price,
