Unsetting read only files

I have some files/folders which i want to edit by using a program, But these are set to read only.. i try changing the attribute settings and unticking the box but it comes straight back on when i check on it???? I mean WTF can yuo help me? Cheers

Can you change the attributes via the command prompt (Start --> Run, type cmd and hit enter) ? At the prompt, type "attrib /?" (without speech marks) and press enter. More info can be found here http://www.computerhope.com/attribhl.htm


where about are these files located?

(on a hard drive, floppy, CD, etc... ?)
