However this afternoon we have been looking at the G4 imac 800 Superdrive .. and if we can find somewhere that has it in stock (at a good price) then we will be buying it this week. Which one have you? and what do you think of it?
Regards Wendy
i got the 800 superdrive with the 15 inch screen, and a g3 500 ibook. the imac has a real feel of quality, its almost silent, you can just about hear the hard drive being accessed. the screen is clear and bright i was lucky to get one without dead pixels, i hear some people arent. as yet i have only burnt to dvd's, i do want to make more but havent filmed anything worth burning yet. i dont know if you have used os x.2 yet but it makes the imac a real treat to use. the desktop, widows effects and transparencies look class. one problem is that browsing on the net is a bit slower than a pc, this is a problem with all flat panel imacs. have you tried the pivoting arm on the panel, it's perfectly smooth and theres no drop or movement when you take your finger of it. i put a question on here a few weeks ago about networking, after about 2 weeks of trying i gave up, then i was messing about with the ibook and i found how to do it. i couldnt believe how simple it was to set up (once you knew how to). i love my imac. if you are a music fan you should seriously think about the ipod, i got a 5 gig ipod at the start of the year and it has never left my side. good luck with the purchase of your new mac and i hope you dont get any stuck pixels.
Thanks for all the info .. we have been out today and bought the 800 superdrive with the 15 inch screen. Sadly, they did not have one in stock so we will have to wait until Wednesday (fingers crossed) to get it ... I just can't wait!!!. We have had Macs for many years .. starting off with the 2CI then going on to 2CX, 6100/66 and 6500 PowerMac.
We had a try on a demo model in the shop and loved everything about it, it is just so elegant .. will watch out for stuck pixels and hope that it is not a probem we have. I guess that I may be coming back to you in the coming weeks for more information.
Macs are brilliant, so much easier to use than PCs :)
