System32 Trouble

Hi. I don't know if anyone remembers, but I had a problem before and my qestion was this....

"Hi. Just wondering could anybody help me? When the computer is turned on and the desktop appears, the "system 32" window opens automatically saying that the files should not be modified, (obviously). But at the left of this window, in the details section of the window, it says the system was modified 2 days ago. Now, I'm assuming this is because of windows update, because I havn't touched the "systems32"! However, there seems to be no problem with the computer as a result. The only thing that's annoying me is that I have to shut the window every time I start up the computer, what can I do to stop this. Thanks for listening, any help would be greatly appreciated".

And as such, the amswer I got was...

"Check your startup folder - the system 32 folder may inadvertently have been dragged in there".

I took his/her advice but to no avail, it doesn't seem to be the problem. Please can someone help me, it's really irritating me. Many Thanks, Tom

Try checking the startup settings from within msconfig (rather than just the contents of the startup folder):

Click 'Start'.
Select 'Run'
Type 'msconfig'
Click 'OK'
Select 'Startup' tab
Clear the tick(s) from any suspicious box(es)
Click 'Apply'
Click 'OK'
Reboot to check whether you've made the right change(s). If so, go into msconfig again and use 'cleanup' to completely remove the unwanted reference.

I had this exact same thing and being a total numptie was flummoxed.

I installed and ran Start Up Inspector for Windows, and that solved the problem for me.

It is safe and simple to use.

Everything that starts up is listed - you can uncheck the boxes. If you've got it wrong, the item is still in the list and you can check it.

Just wanted to say to Ethel a big big thank you! Wow!!! It worked fantasically. Reccomend it to anyone who is on a basic par with computers. For those of us not in the know, much easier than using "msconfig", however, many thanks to Buenchico also, much appreciated the thought!
