If 0 longitude is the Prime Meridian which runs through Greenwich, why does Google Earth load over some obscure town named Lincoln in Nebraska? I have looked but can find no way of changing this setting.

Lincoln, Nebraska is the centre of the 48 contigious states of the US. This is the Default View. Change it by finding 'default' in the Places window pane (red heading), right click on it and select edit. A dialog box will open so you can change the name and its map marker will become highlighted by a yellow box. You can now move this marker around to wherever you want the default view to be and press OK in the dialog box to set it.

Annoyingly, it still starts off looking over America, but this I can abide.
I've just had a look at it and I reckon it's probably as near the centre of the USA as you can get. It is an American site so they're bound to be biased as to where they send us first !

Or maybe over some human rights abuses which they want to promote in China.
Actually, the geographical center of the 48 contiguous states is a few hundred yards outside of Lebanon, Kansas. This quite a ways from Lincoln, Nebraska... offered pedantically...
