A Sky+ box requires TWO sky connections (cables) from the dish to the sky+ box, so you can record one channel while watching another.

To enable this they have to fit a new component to the Sky dish (an LNB I think).

Unless you already have the new LNB and the two cables you will NOT be able to fit the sky+ box yourself.

I recently had Sky+ fitted and as I subscribe to the Sports/Movies channels I only had to pay 89 for the Sky+ box (80G disk) with free fitting. See the sky web site.

the standard lnb already has 4 outputs so i didnt think they had to alter that in any way.they do have to install 2 cables, though.
I had multiroom fitted at the same time so maybe that is why I needed a new LNB.
i also had multiroom fitted and still didnt get my lnb changed ! maybe some dishes have it and some not......apparently when skyhd arrives and you get an installation of the new box they will change the lnb to an 'octo' lnb ie 8 outputs ! sky+ in 4 rooms.....the possibilities and the bills are endless !
