Software activation

I have been lent some legitimate software. It states that it will require activation within 30 days. What would happen if I were to install and activate it if it belongs to someone else who has obviously already installed and activated it themselves?

Software is only "legitimate" if you use it within terms of the license agreement. Usually a license only allows the software to be installed on 1 computer, but this does differ. You need to check the terms of the license to make sure you aren't breaking the law by installing this on another pc.

But in answer to your question, probably nothing will happen, or it will not let you activate it.

Upon installing the software it gave me the 30 activation message. I decided that I may aswell just uninstall it because 30 day use would be pointless. However I mistakenly clicked on the 'activate over the internet' button. It thanked me for this and prompted me to click 'finish', which, realising my error, I chose not to do. I just went into task manager and ended the programme. After this I uninstalled it properly. I hope that by not 'finishing' it, it didn't activate.

My only worry is that the software belongs to my place of work (they happily lent me it) and I don't know if they'll get into trouble (of me for 'borrowing' it).
