Hi.

If you want to use the copyright symbol in Microsoft Word, go to the top and click on Insert

then on Symbol

Highlight the character you want

Then click on Insert at the foot of the window

Or using keypad numbers press the Alt key and 0169

(Alt-0169)

Any idea where I might find a complete list of characters that can be accessed with the Alt key. I've been tapping away at a few but it could take a while to document them all. Ta.

That's a good suggestion Mudman.

I am using an American keyboard, and although I have made my settings to English (UK), I am still unable to locate the backward slash \ unless I go into the Symbol search method I mentioned earlier. Using the Alt key would be very useful and indeed a short cut.

Click here for the main codes.

In Word: Alt G for copyright; and Alt R for registered (R in a circle). I use them all the time in commercial writing.
if you're using windows, go to Start, Programmes, Accessories, System Tools and choose Character Map, a full list of all fonts and all keystrokes, it's a godsend!
if you are using ms word, try just hitting (c) and that should auto-change to the copyright symbol. (r) will auto-change to the registered trademark symbol. well it does in my version of word (2003).

Thanx muchly.. All very clear now.

But why are American keyboards different to British ones?.. And if American is recognised as a seperate language to English... Am I Bi-lingual? (though, I only speak 'broken American')
