how do i burn dvds?

how do i burn dvds? a really basic question i know but i have windows 2000 and i dont know which app to use, nero? if i borrow a friend's dvd and burn a copy will it play on my dvd player?

copying dvd's is not that simple as they are usually double layered and the only way you will be able to do it is to 'rip' the movie from the disc itself.

Nero is very good for all sorts of things but if you only want to copy DVDs consider CloneDVD. Neither of these will copy protected DVDs - you will need AnyDVD or something similar in the background. Also consider DVD Shrink or DVDSanta.

DVD Shrink is the best software in my opinion. Use it to create an ISO image file of the disc, then burn the ISO using Roxio.
