I know you should not mix different memory brands, sizes, speeds, but I need a bit more memory and it's not worth buying a 1G stick of pc2700, when for about 3 more I can get 1G pc3200. Also better if i decide to upgrade. I currently have 1G (2x512mb) OCZ running on a ASUS A7N8X-Deluxe, but need more memory as I do a lot of 3D animation.
Just wanted to know if anyone running a similar spec machine has had any problems running with mixed memory, or advise about doing this.
Memory will run at the speed of the slowest module. So if you buy the PC3200, it will be limited to the 333MHz of the PC2700 modules that are already installed, but it will work fine.
I would do as you've suggested, get the faster memory in the hopes that when it comes to you buying or building a new PC, it will be a useful addition to it rather than just being fit for the bin!
