My computer was fitted with a router rather than a modem, in Sept. of last year. After 3 hitch-free months, in December, I was unable to get online, continually getting the Cannot find server message.

I called an engineer who did about 5 minutes of typing and my access was fine until a few days ago. On Saturday I encountered the same Cannot find server page. I phoned the engineer who advised me to turn the router off for at least 3 mins, then switch if off and restart my computer.

This process has helped me get back online. However, it does not last and I have performed this process for the past three days to get online.

Can anyone give me any advise as to how to get my access back for more than a day at a time?

Also, could the regular on/offing damage my computer and/or router?

As these server problems have each occurred after about three months, could this be significant?
