E mail problems
Every time I log on to outlook express, I get the following error message : "Your server has unexpectedly terminated the conection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account 'pop.3blueyonder.co.uk', server 127.0.0.1.', protocol POP3, port:110, secure (SSL) no, error number 0x800CCCOF.
Sorry it's so long but this message is driving me mad !
If anybody can help I would be extremely grateful

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Blueyonder have been doing a fair bit of Email maintenance recently - as they do. This can cause the problems you are experiencing for up to 12 hours at a time. There are also long-term ongoing issues with their Email platform which is not the most robust.
If you are sure your account name and password are all set up OK, you could try increasing the server timeout time in Outlook Express ;
Tools -> Accounts - > Mail tab -> Properties -> Advanced
I think the default is 60 secs, mine is set to 1min 30 sec and it seems to be more reliable than it was. But I also get the same problem from time to time. There's also a possiblity that some Email scanning software - AntiVirus, Norton etc. or a firewall is causing the problem.
You may have to dig out the settings that Blue Yonder sent you. Check that the POP3 server is right, it should be pop3.blueyonder.co.uk (not pop.3blue......). The SMTP server address is smtp.blueyonder.co.uk
127.0.0.1 should not be listed anywhere in your mail settings. That's a default address for your local PC used by Windows, so if your mail program is looking there, it will never find what it's looking for.
Let us know how you go.
Ralph,
Many many thanks !! I've just found a bit of time and found that in the box for incoming mail it was shown as 127.0.0.1 - I typed pop3.blueyonder.co.uk in it's place and hey presto!, all now seems ok.
We need more brainy people like you around on Answerbank - brilliant.
Again
Many thanks
