I've got hundreds of 35mm slides that I'd like to digitize. Could I get reasonable quality from an A4 scanner with film adaptor or should I go for a dedicated film scanner? I don't want to spend more than about 150-200.

You should get reasonable quality using a standard flatbed scanner and adaptor. I have an Epson 1250 Photo, which comes with the adaptor, and the quality's pretty good.
