Setting yourself up with broadband

I've been living in my flat for a couple of years now, and I've always got by with my mobile rather than a landline. But now I've decided that broadband would be a good idea, and I've got no idea where to start. Because I've never had a landline etc, would I need to contact BT etc? What processes will I have to go through to get myself set up?

If you live in a Telewest or NTL area, you can have broadband without a telephone line.

Otherwise you will have to have a phone line installed by BT.

If you get your line with BT i suggest you get your broadband from them as well...

because there not expensive and if somthing does go wrong they own the line so its easier for them to fix!!!

Talk to BT so you can see the packages they do (they are very helpful).

Check the prices if you're on a BT line : the last time I checked BT were one of the more expensive ones. I wouldn't normally recommend them.
virgin.net are good for price and others like bulldog and plusnet get good customer reviews.

Supernick as Ethel says if you live in a Telewest Broadband area, (You can put your post code in on their website and it will tell you) I had Unlimited Broadband (Blueyonder) put in, 2 phone sockets, one upstairs and one downstairs for my landline and Freeview digital tv for �30 per month, at the moment it is free installation (normally �50.) without the Freeview it is �27 a month, though you don't need an outside ariel for your Freeview, which is great. Hope this is of some help.

Definitely Telewest if available... unlimited downloads at 4Mb/s !!Excellent support if problems arise and a good range of services.I've been with them for years.
