Need more RAM on computer for Broadband!

According to BT, you must have at least 64MB of RAM on your computer to go onto broadband. My computer is quite old and only has 63MB, Which is the easiest way to add more RAM?

Add memory chips - providing you have spare space, it is probably easy to do yourself - just be aware you have to avoid creating static electricity when putting them in.

H O W E V E R, you say it is "quite old" - does it have a USB port which you may need - if not, it might be worth (it might be worth it anyway!) just getting a new PC.

I didn't think it was possible to have 63mb of ram!

The modules are normally in multiples of 8 (i think)

Just install it, it should work, but I'd reccomend at least 128-256 Bare Minimum or your PC will run quite slowly.

For Example - I'm currently using around 50MB just with my internet browsers, not to mention the other tasks!


But back to your question... Find out what sort of memory you use and it's speed. To find out what you need goto http://www.crucial.com/ and use their Help Program.

Once you know what you need, buy what they tell you. Hope that helps

KAZ, I should think that you actually have 64mb RAM. RAM builds up in multiples of 64. So the next step for you is 128Mb (then 256, 512 then 1GB). When you check how much RAM you have it will always be less then it should be (so a 512Mb machine could show 510Mb). So that'll be why your showing 63Mb, but as Postdog says - add another stick of RAM or replace yours, you'll be amazed how much it speeds up!

I am on Wanadoo Broadband with a 64 RAM PC and it seems to work OK. PC is full of music and photos too!

Thank you for this advice, although, sorry, I am a complete computer dummy....Please someone explain this memory stick, is it like a memory card for a digital camera? and where do I put it? I hope its quite simple!!!(Like me yes I know!!!!)
