Lots of providers out there Lou...... I would say a deal for broadband that costs you around the 15 per month you would be paying a pretty average price.

Most of the rest of the deals and prices differences are to do with the amount you can download each month, upload speeds, and bundled packages where you can get free phone calls etc.

I use Utilities Warehouse who offer a nice bundled deal of free telephone calls and good broadband service for about 18 / month. I also have a discounted phone line rental with them.

you can take a look at what they have on offer if you like at

the above site will give you all the broadband packages for the uk and comparisons so you can see which one suits your needs and pocket best.

Just as a simple answer to your question "shall I or shan't I?", believe me, you will wonder how you ever lived without it. Whenever I have to work on a PC with dial-up internet now, it makes me feel like it's stealing my life from me......... ok, I exaggerate, but it does make you want to tear your hair out!

If you're in a cable area, I recommend Telewest... they may be a little more expensive than some of the ADSL offerings over a BT line, but they are superbly reliable, and offer 4MB uncapped useage as a basic package.

Basic broadband packages cost about the same per month as dial up but don't tie up your phone line and prevent you from using the phone at the same time.
Most, however, will ask that you pay an "activation" fee up front of about 50.

If that doesn't put you off (or you use cable or virgin.net) then I'd definitely go for it. I agree that once you've used broadband for a while you'll probably feel that you'd never go back to dial up.
I wouldn't
