Ive had a MSN hotmail account for years but upto now not have not installed MSN messenger. A friend has recently gone abroad and wants to stay in touch using MSN messenger. Ive installed the software ok but it wont connect me when i sign in..

All im getting when i try to connect is a window that says " We are unable to sign you into the MSN Messenger at this time.. your Firewall may be blocking messenger from connecting"

I get this message even when i disable my firewall plus ive tried changing my proxy settings but to no avail..

My ISP is NTL.. can anyone out there help me? many thanx

Do you connect through a router of some sort? If so, does that have a firewall on it that's preventing the stuff from getting through?

I'm running the zone alarm FireWall. I brought up the control centre and clicked on the FireWall tab and then clicked on zones.. i changed the listed items from "internet" to "trusted" sites and then closed the window.. MSN messenger then connected Yay!!
