external hard drive

is it easy and safe to make an external hard drive into an internal one by opening the casing and connecting to the inside of the computer...

can anyone explain..i have heard it is a simple process...i have a freecom classic 80GB

The hard disk that comes in these external boxes is a "standard" hard drive so you should be able to remove it from the external case and put it in your PC.

BUT have you any experience of opening up PC cases and making changes.

Do you know where and how to fix the hard drive inside the case ?

Do you know where to get the power from ?.

Have you a spare ICE connector inside the case ?

Is it going to be the master or slave drive ?

Do you know how to switch it from master to slave or vice versa ?.

Make sure you know what you are doing before you start.

An extrnal drive is always handy (transferring from one PC to another say) so why not keep it as that and just install an ordinary internal drive.

I'd go with Postdog - keep it external unless you're desperate for another hard drive. Most people do it the other way round - put an 'old' internal hard drive into an external enclosure.
