This is a basic question , I know but, once more this Gt.Granny needs a bit of help! I have a massive CD library and imported a selection into iTunes and then onto my little ipod Shuffle. Obviously I don't want the music on my laptop..it was just a means to an end. How do I delete all the music off the laptop again? It takes up such a lot of disk space.

Well you can just right-click the files you want to remove, and click "clear". They should end up in your recycle bin, just delete them from there.

But the idea of iTunes is that you keep the music on your laptop, so 1) you have a backup if anything on the iPod itself goes wrong (so you dont have to rip your CDs all over again), and 2) you can listen to your music while using your laptop.

How much space is it using? And do you have free space left on your laptop? As long as you have some free space left (say, the amount of RAM you have on your computer), then its OK.

Thanks fo3nix but for some reason"right clicking " does not produce the "clear" option. That would only delete it from the play lists or whatever anyway, but not from my hard drive I am told. As I say I don't need music on my laptop..I have a massive music library ..couple of thousand...and can listen anytime. This was a one off for a patient in hopsital. I would just like to clear my hard drive! The music is using up some 5%
Are you able to find the files using Windows Explorer? If you can, you should be able to right-click and delete, or click on the red 'X' icon on the toolbar.
Well in the library part of iTunes, there should certainly be a "clear" thing if you right-click files. You can highlight several at once and delete them all.

Or, (or maybe as well as, depending how you've added your music), go and find your music files on your hard drive, and just delete them. The place iTunes usually puts them is C:\documents and settings\[username]\my documents\my music\itunes\. Feel free to just delete all the stuff there, if you no longer want to use it anymore.

Many thanks everybody..I HAVE found some folders in My Music, like you said - three in fact! The first folder says Previous iTunes Library and won't open! The second is iTunes Library.itl and the third one is iTunes Music Library.xml Am I safe to delete the whole lot?! This is one very good reason why Gt Grannies should not tangle with modern technology !

If you don't want the music and settings any more, then yes delete the whole lot. Make sure iTunes is closed first before you delete anything though.
