when i press some of the letters on my keyboard i get numbers up on the screen instead of letters. i think i've changed some settings somewhere. Anyone help??

Maybe you need a new new keyboard - they dont last forever.

I'm at work at the moment and sometimes my keyboard randomly changes keys round. Sometimes if I press shift and 2 to get speech marks, I get the @ symbol. etc. It's very annoying but seems to sort itself out without me having to do anything.

You may have inadvertently changed the keyboard 'language'. If you go into Control Panel -> Keyboard, you should see the keyboard properties. Make sure it's set to what you want, ie: English (United Kingdom).

Even something which seems innocuous like English (United States) can change some keys around, like the " and @ symbols mentioned.

This can also be checked in Control Panel -> Regional Options.

Most laptops have the numbers on the normal keys so making sure the num lock is off usually does the trick.
