AMD Sempron Vs Athlon

Im on a budget (�600) to buy to a new pc.


I won`t be playing games or watching movies on the pc.


So could anyone tell me the advantages and disadvantages between the Sempron and Athlon Processors


Could you keep the answer simple please.

Basically, the Athlon is the "proper" processor, and the Sempron is the cut-down one. Has things like reduced cache, if you're being more technical. Small things like watching little videos online will be better with an Athlon, which you may not have thought of as requiring much CPU power.

While you may be perfectly fine with the sempron, I'd still strongly suggest you go for an Athlon. Though for that sort of budget, you could probably pick up an Athlon64 (this is very different from the normal Athlon). Have a look at dell's website, and see if they have any decent offers right now.

BTW, don't go for anything less than 512MB RAM. You'll only regret it later.
