temp net files deleting

fron tools> net options> delete temp files>do you wish to delete> yes - i do this and after 10 secs and i am given no message wheter the files were deleted (i have tried this several times), i then tried thru disc clean up but the disc clean up window "calculating to compress files" appears to freeze and is doing nothing (as i type this it has been running for 30 minutes -and nothing at all ) i am rather confused. I used to run disc clean up before and at most would take 5mins


i am running xp and have done a defrag

You can view your temporary internet files which are stored at c:\documents and settings\%username%\local settings\temporary internet files so you can do a before and after properties view (I think this folder is usually hidden). You could try running the disk cleanup in safe mode.
