The CD-ROM drive on my laptop does not recognise when there is a disc inserted. It is a combined DVD/CD drive but has no problem recognising DVDs. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the driver but still nothing. Anyone have any suggestions?

I had a similar problem where Cds werent recognised but DVDs were . I was advised on the forum that the laser for the CD had probably "died" - does anything show up on Windows explorer when a disc is inserted (CD's Didnt when I had the problem) - ended up getting a USB DVD /CD rewriter drive which cost around 50 .
