does this program do the same job as XP's Firewall or is this a completely different type of security programme??

No, Winpatrol is NOT a firewall.


Basically a Firewall checks every bit of data that wants to come in to or out of your computer from and to the internet (via tcp/ip ports to be exact).


Winpatrol monitors your Windows system to make sure nothing untoward happens to it like the home page being changed or a rouge program being installed.


It is quite safe to haver a firewall and Winpatrol on your PC at the same time.


I suggest you install the free version of the ZoneAlarm firewall rather than the one supplied with XP as it is better.

Zone alarm free personal firewall, used it for years and can't fualt it.
