blocked ip addy

does anyone know y a ip addy to a site would get blocked on my computer the fault is not with the site as everyone else can acess it and my ip addy has been checked that it isnt blocked by the site.my server is saying its not there fault as i can acess all other pages on the web its just this one site i cant when i try to connect to it it times me out also i cannot ping the ip addy i havent changed any settings on my puter or added any new programmes i done 3 system restores so if that had of happened it would of took it back to old settings. so if anyone has any idea as to why the ip to the site would b blocked and what i can do to change it id be very grafefull for any help thanks in advance

You asked this a week or so ago. I responded trying to help, but in the end said that it'd be easier if we knew that site it was, so we could check it out and see if they do anything funny. But you still haven't said what site it is.

sorry dident get what u meant its a support group which id rather not say. but i know its not the site cus i can acess it from other computers with my password details and its not the kind of site that does funny things kinda thing

OK, what OS are you on?

XP Home? Go here:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

There will be a file called "hosts". open it in notepad, and tell me what's in it. May start with a load of lines (17 on mine) with a "#" at the start. You can ignore that bit.

did i have to ignore all the bits that started with# i had 17 lines to then one underneath that dident have that# and it said 123.0.01 local host

hmm ok. that's perfectly normal.

can you access any other parts of the site. i mean, can you access say yoursite.com/thispage but not yoursite.com/thatpage?

also, have you tried using a different browser?

i cant get on to any page to do with the site ive tried through different browers and tried to get through on links.but nothing works. thanks for your help by the way !

Have you got a fixed IP? Try unplugging your cable modem / set-top box at the wall to see if that resets your IP address.
