Software to use on ipod

I have just purchased a second hand ipod. I haven't got the cd, so what is the best software to use (or can I only use the ipod software which I can download from apple).

I think iPods support normal mp3s so any p2p software would do. Soulseek is a good (so I've heard ... ;o).

iTunes doesn't cost anything, and is right now the best music organising software imo. And its also the easiest thing to use with iTunes. It's designed to be used with an iPod; other software isn't as much.
