Dodgy Internet connection - Linksys problem
As some of the regulars on here know (because without them it woulnd't have been done), I recently installed a Linksys router to set up a wireless network in the house. All was well for a week or so. However, over the last three days, the Internet connection has failed quite frequently. It connects with no problem, but then while we are working online, we suddenly get the 'Page cannot be displayed' message. Is this likely to be something to do with the new router/modem, or is it more likely to be a problem with the service provider, Tiscali?

Have you tried their free on line support, 'netset assistant'? It scans your system and makes sure all is well.
I do know tiscali has been a little unstable lately.
It could be something very silly. My laptop has a 'disconnect' button at the very front where my thumb naturally sits. If I inadvertently press that I lose connection.

As Ethel says, if you have a disconnect button, make sure you have not accidently pressed it ( I am always accidently doing this).
If it is not the above that is the problem, it could easily be your router or modem.Disconnect your router and try using your broadband 'wired' for a couple of days.If all is ok, then it is likely your router.If the problem persists whilst 'wired' then I would say that it most probably your modem.I had a similar problem about 6 months ago with NTL, and it turned out to be a problem with my modem.NTL fitted a new one, and it has been fine ever since.

If not, then there's some problem with the router. If it's still connected, but you can't get online, then either the router has disconnected itself, or there may be a service problem with your ISP. To see if it is the router disconnecting you, go into the router settings page (probably type 192.168.1.1 or something in your web browser), and it'll say if you're connected or not.
One problem that I had with my router (still not really sure why), was that it was doing exactly what you say. I dropped the speed down from 'g' setting to 'b' (54mbps to 12mbps), and i've not had the problem since. the 'b' setting is still far in excess of my broadband connection to my ISP, so it doesn't make any difference as far as speed in concerned.
