computer problem

my computers hd is currupted with viruse's.
It won't boot from a good hd.
when I boot up the system, my cmos does not do the usual search.
it freezes.
However, during boot up I press the apropreate key to go into the cmos settings.
At this point my cmos finds all my computers hardware which it should have done at the boot up stage.
Here the option to enter setup appears and I press f1 to do so.
My computer will not enter setup when I do this.
I cannot get into the cmos what ever I do.
Can some one give me some good advice!

Surely that's the same as "Here the option to enter setup appears and I press f1 to do so."?

I press the delete button and it takes me to a window which tells me to press the f1 button to enter setup.
But nothing happens what so ever.

What motherboard do you have? Do you know the BIOS manufacturer (it should be shown during startup). I've never heard of a BIOS that required two separate key-presses to enter setup...

let me re-thrase my question.
when i boot up my computer it does not do the cmos check, instead it freezes.
however, when i boot up my computer again and i press the del key, then i see the cmos checker finding the hd, the processor ect.....seems to be doing things back to front.
when this has completed i have a line telling me to press f1 to go into setup.
When i press f1 it does nothing at all.
all of this is rearly weard i know.....thanks for your time rojash.

Bit stumped on this one redken! But you might try completely resetting the CMOS memory. If you have the motherboard manual you can do it by shorting the reset pins - if not, you could try removing the battery for 5 minutes. Saying that, I wonder if it's worth trying a new battery?

Also, it's possible that a faulty peripheral device is interfering with the post. Try disconnecting devices (HD, FD, CD, etc) one at a time and seeing what happens.
