What is a micro SD to SD adaptor?

What is one of those? Is it just a normal micro SD card? Whats the "to SD card adaptor" part about??

The micro SD is much smaller than a standard SD card (why anyone would want something so small I don't know - unless some device - camera or mobile phone - uses one; too easily lost?). The adapter allows the micro to be used in more standard devices or card readers. SD cards are probably just the right size for most people - better than the 'after eight mint' compact flash cards?
