Random email spam messages - are they sinister?

Virtually every day I receive random spam. The message title is always 4 words, usually takes the form of 2 verbs, 1 noun and 1 adverb, and is meaningless. Today's offering says ' Also probate may precession'. The messages have no attachments (always a sign to immediately delete). I never open them to read the text because I am wary of them. Where do they come from? Can they contain viruses or worms even without an attachment?

Just delete them, should have no problems

You should have some means of reporting spam to your internet service provider. For example, AOL have a 'Report Spam' button on the incoming mail window. By reporting the spam, the service provider can put a block on the sender so that you don't receive any more emails from that source. AOL blocks tens of millions of spam emails every day. I used to have this trouble, but hardly suffer from it these days.

I get these too and would be interested to know what the point is - they don't contain any attachments, or links, or anything at all except plain text. Are they just trying to elicit a response/ read receipt perhaps? I can't imagine the point of sending these e-mails; they aren't like the usual viagra / surgery / phishing type mails in any obvious sense. (Sorry i can't answer the question, btw).
