i am currently a sky subscriber, can i just buy a sky+ box and plug it in to my existing dish and use my current sky card? cheers

You can. However you will need an LNB (black box on the end of a satellite dish) with at least 2 outputs, and you will need to 1 more cable from this to your Sky+ box (you need 2 cable inputs). Then put the card into the new box, phone Sky and tell them you have a new box. They will then "pair" your card to the new box (free). You will also have to "activate" recording with Sky (same phone call). This costs �10 per month unless you subscribe to the "full" package from Sky.
