Uploading from Camcorder to Computer???!!!!!!!

I have a dell computer and need to upload some footage from my camcorder.

I apparently need a firewire card! can anyone tell me are they easy to put into the computer??

Or can I get one that attaches to the front of my computer via a usb port??

Also, do I need to have any particular programme to do this??

I have been meaning to do this for years?? I also have an old camcorder (one of the big ones!) can I transfer these too!!

I assume that you have a camcorder that has Firewire? Otherwise, if it is analogue, there are USB capture devices available.
