have you pressed the "connect" button on the router's settings pages? I have to do that with mine sometimes.

The settings can usually be found by going to 192.168.2.1 or something like that; check your manual. on mine (a belkin, however), there is a button on the first page to 'connect'.
When I first set up my wireless router the laptop was showing connected but I could not get on-line.

I had to hardwire to the router and install my isp's (blueyonder) installation cd.

All was well after that.

hawki,

It looks like this is a very common problem...

Here's a possible solution:

-Goto the D-link router configuration site (198.168.0.1)
-Click on the "Advanced" tab at the top, then click the "Performance" button on the left
-Change the "Preamble" setting to "long"
-Wait for router to restart, close programs, and try to get on the internet.

Good luck!!!

As sparkyharky says, it is a common problem (even my anti-virus program could access the Internet before I could). Some installations go on straight away (if you're very lucky!). Try this:-

Right-click on the wireless icon in your system tray; click on 'View available networks' - you should see 'Set up a wireless network for a home or small office' - follow the instructions, bit of trial and error as to which works (and you don't need to use a disk when it asks).

Make sure that under Connections in Internet options in Internet Explorer Tools you have it to 'never dial a connection'.

Hope it helps.

Check the IP address on your 'settings' ...
