My Panasonic VCR has stopped recording although it plays back fine. It is four years old. Is this a big problem? Could it be a loose connection?

Are you sure the fault is with player and not the tape?

Have you checked all the settings?

If it is broken, see if you can get a free quote for repair - but vcrs are so cheap nowadays it would probably be better to replace it.

You could always hook it up to a spare tv as a play only machine.

If it's connected via a scart make sure they are well plugged in. Once my scart came just a tiny wee bit loose and I got no sound. Hope this helps.

I have tried a couple of tapes, the picture just comes out black and the sky box says 'confirm signal'. I will try hooking in all the wires at the back again. I can't imagine it is much of a fault as it is quite new.

When I say 'the sky box says' I mean it is connected through a sky box (digital freeview) so I get this message with the black screen.
The problem is with the sky set up and not the vcr.

If you connect the vcr to the tv and aerial (without Sky) I bet it works.

I managed to fix it myself. I noticed the numbering on the digital display had changed, I changed it back and now it is OK. Someone must have pressed a button and changed the display. Thanks folks !!
