HTML coding

When i copy and paste to my web site and i preview my site the code still appears, is this the norm, and how will i get to see what is supposed to be there.

I am a complete novice to this, can anyone help please.

Can you enlighten us a bit further? Copy and paste what to your website?

Is your site online, or are you playing with it just on your hard drive before you upload it?

so you have some HTML code from somewhere, and you want to put it on your site, but when you paste it into your site the code with all the <blah> etc. still appears?

what extension are you saving the files as... index.htm for instance?
