file deletion
4 Answers
My son has downloaded some music files from limewire into "my documents". I doin't like this sort of thing, so have uninstalled the program and deleted them. Two are proving mosr stubborn. They are corrupt and don't play, but when I try and delete them however, neither dragging them into the recycle bin, nor right clicking and selecting "delete" seems to shift them. I also can't rename them, or see anything in "properties" that suggests they are read only. Is there any other way to delete them?

Try deleting the entire folder that those corrupt files are in. In other words, dont open the folder to see the files, just right click the folder and delete it. Move any files you wish to keep into another folder first. This has worked for me in the past but wont nessesarily always work. Give it a try.
Deleting the folder did the trick. I dread to think what kind of nasty was within the file that stops it from being deleted any other way - or maybe I am just paranoid. I wish I knew what it was, as I could have used it to prevent the accidental deletion of several important work files a few months ago......

Just a thought but if your gonig to download songs etc create a folder on your desktop & call it downloads or something so you'll know what its for. When you decide to download something instead of downloading to the default folder choose save, then pick the folder you created on your desktop, this way you can scan the folder for viruses & if there's something unusual delete the folder, that way you know where any problem downloads are located & you can delete it without worrying about any other programs you have.
