I have downloaded Audacity to extract parts of songs to use as ringtones. Works fine if I have mp3 format but I want to use some songs from iTunes.

I have downloaded the converter from http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm as suggested in other answers but it doesn't seem to include mpeg4 in its list of comptible file types.

hi spywriter the easiest way around this is to make itunes save your library as .mp3s instead of AAC files, but this will not work with music purchased from itunes unless you urn it CD first in which case it us then burnt as .mp3 files.

How does this affect the amount of tunes that will fit on iPod?
Hi Spywriter again, the space difference if any is negligible in its default setting, actually Itunes gives you the option to customise the bitrate you wish to save your mp3 in and the same for AAC files, the lower the bitrate the lower the file size, so this could even increase the ipods capacity, have a look around in the Preferences menu> importing tab to see what I mean.
