screensaver

hi, ive recently upgraded my monitor to a 19" tft (samsung) and ever since my screensaver just doesnt kick in ,all the settings seem to be correct but still it wont work.

any ideas ? thanks

What do you mean by screensaver? Is it a specific screensaver or do none of them work? Or did your old monitor power go into standby rather than displaying a software screensaver, if so your power settings may have been changed, these are under the "Power" button of the screensaver tab.

no screensaver will come on at all ,its set to come on after 5 minutes and the monitor is set to go onto shutdown after 20 minutes .

if i then leave the monitor for half an hour its still stays on the screen i left it on.

im gonna try to find out if there are some updated drivers for the monitor.

got the new driver still doesent work.

Try updating the drivers for your video card also.

What happens if you press the screensaver preview button?

preview works ok , have already updated video card driver.

Ok well that's the obvious out of the way, if the preview works then your hardware and drivers seem ok.

It seems like a process may be running that is causing the system to never go idle.


You need to use MSCONFIG to find out what this may be, go here http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/if you are unfamiliar.

Uncheck everything in the "Startup" section and see if the screensaver works (Put the timer at 1 min tho!!). If it does then put things back in until it stops working again. Do a search in Google for the name of the process and you will find some more info on it to see if you need it or not.

Acutally I've just reread the site and you can leave checked all the things they say you need to first time round.

thanks very much for your help ,

managed to track it down to a piece of dvd playing software (cyberlink ) . also left a good few other things switched off which werent needed , maybe pc will run a bit better aswell .
