i play an online game called runescape, and they have this rule where if you trade between accounts then both accounts get in danger of becoming banned. so anyways, with my new lan connection that means me and my brother can play at the same time, would this mean we both end up having the same IP address? because this could cause problems as they might think im logged onto both at once to trade items etc over.....

but then again, surely anyone that has lan with 2 or more people accessing the game will hit this barrier..... so do u think they have some kind of detection for this kinda thing cos i havent heard of any bannings thru this b4

Your Internet connection won't work either very well or at all if you both have the same IP address.

I assume you are in the same place with one Internet connection which is being shared ?

i mean im upstairs in my room playing through the wired connection, then he logs on from downstairs, into his own account..... via wireless (im the one with the wired connection)

If that's the case each machine will have its own IP address so you should have little to worry about.

My guess is that you have one broadband internet connection that you share through a wireless router. You connect via a wire and your brother through wireless. You have the same external IP address but different internal IP addreses. Your router uses NAT so you both can play the game. To the external world you are both on the same IP address, the external one. I hope this clears up the confusion. Interestingly, I guess you can easily trade between yourself and your brother (even offline) which is what the online gamers don't want.

so your saying that the company hosting the game will be able to detect were both on different systems?
