For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.it all boils down to the age old question of "it depends on what you want" but basically you can get webspace for free or you can pay for it. If you go for a freebie then 1) you'll possibly have adverts forced into your webpages 2) you may not be allowed to write scripting languages/use asp, 3) you're limited to what you can do beyond simple html pages. If you go for a site with a charge then you'll get more features, larger webspace, more email addresses, use of CGI/ASP/Perl etc... use of FTP, and so on and so on. I use www.siperoonline.co.uk - there is a 9.00/year package but i went for the 19.00/year package which has quite a comprehensive list of features for the average home user. One of the main advantages of sipero (dunno if others have this facility) is that you can choose either a UNIX server (Perl) or Windows Server (ASP) to host your site. Also they'll sort out purchasing a domain name for you.
