Me and My brother share an account and we cant have 2 seperate accounts cause our dad wont let us. Is there any software that we can lock/hide our files so that the other cant get onto them. Im concerned about my school work cause he's been known to go on it in the past and *chage* bits of it! Thankyou Rich

I use a programme called Secure Files. I forget how much it cost me, now, but type the words into Google and you should come to their site. It is virtually impossible to access the programme without a password, so be careful not to forget it!
Rich - you should always back up important files such as your schoolwork.

I suggest you save the files you don't want others to access to a floppy disc, cd or usb flash drive - they are all cheap options.

Another advantage is you can then access your files from any computer, perhaps at school.

Why wont your dad let you have separate accounts.

It is easy to set up and protects your files from your brother and vice versa.

I assume your father has a separate account, so should both of you.

Our family computer is set up with 4 accounts, mine, my wifes, and my two children.

Each logon is password protected.
label your files with odd titles like - Fshlmo.esk or exobat.data, autorun.bat or something - he will likely not go near them thinking they are computer system files
If your operating system is Windows XP you can password protect each folder.

Righclick the folder you wanted to protect and click 'send to......' and then 'compressed (zipped) folder.'

Double click the zipped folder and under the 'file' tab you'll see 'add a password'.

Don't forget your password.
As vehelpfulguy says, there's really no reason not to have separate user accounts. Does your dad know your brother sometimes changes your work?

If you want something ultra-secure, you can install and use truecrypt. Make sure you never forget the password for it though, otherwise your work is lost forever.
