Phoning a Mobile in New Zealand.
12 Answers
My son recently arrived in New Zealand where he will be living for the next year. He e-mailed me the number of a mobile phone which he purchased there yesterday. This number he sent is eleven digits long and the first of these is a zero. I have discovered that the country code for New Zealand is 0064 - so I dialled this, dropped the first zero from the number that he sent me and then added the remaining ten digits. Unfortunately this combination does not seem to work. Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong?

after the outlay on the phone, the calls are free, like the tesco phone ads. I imagine this would be loads cheaper in the long run.

This Tesco offer looks really good sense4all - but does the party at the other end ( i.e. my wandering son) need a permanent landline number to make it work - or can you use it to call up a mobile?
If you can call up a mobile on the Tesco system then I still need to figure out the correct dialling number to contact him.

Sorry about the delay in answering. If your Son has taken a laptop or will be going to cyber cafes to pick up E- mail ,he plugs phone in to a usb port and the connection happens by you and him using the internet at the same time - easy peasy. Lots of people do this, call friends and family back for very litle or no cost to especially the States. You could send a phone ahead to a pre arranged destination for him to collect if you choose tesco or probably betterfor him to pick up a skype phone there, no post or courier cost and less stressful( will it be there when he is?)
The campsites that we stayed on in NZ were really helpful with this kind of stuff . I also went on ask.co.uk
to find out how to get a cell phone connection in NZ, no joy with number protocol but loads of calling card offers that might be worth a trawl for you!

Bottoms!!!!
I meant to ask had you heard from him yet? Send him an e-mail to notify him you are having a ' bit of bother' getting connected.
Here is a list of contacts there to start with and the home page has a diagram of how it works for you too.

I am intrigued that these are all dual phones the phone I have at home is on the skype web site and plugs into a usb port. Why not put a calling all Kiwis on the Travel or People and Places categories..... just a thought.
