Cant afford an IceMat or one of those Steel ones, so I was wondering if anyone had any (sensible) ideas as to what i could use as a good mouse mat for a laser mouse (my pc desk is rubbish...) i am currently using an envelope, which isnt bad, but was wondering if anyone uses anything else that costs next to nothing or is lying about the house. Thanks!

Is your desk really so bad that it can't be used?

Otherwise, either you can pick them up all over for free at random places that give them out as promo things, or get some cardboard and tightly stretch over some cotton, nylon or similar fabric (i.e. slippery), and that should do the trick.
a placemat?
