ps2 cheat discs help

do they affect the ps2 in any way? i have just been using one for the last 2 weeks and now my ps2 has packed in, my ps2 is about 4 years old so it may well be just old age but was wondering if cheat discs are known to corrupt ps2s?

No they can't, as they only use virtual memory to store the cheats when you use it, but they're not supported by sony. And 4 years old for a PS2? I've had mine for 5 years and havn't had any problems and have just got a hdd for it.
