Turn on modem.

this was thefirst thing i tried, was thinking tomaybe try to reinstall the modem, but just wanted to know why this has happened
does it work if you try it wired instead of wireless. If it does not work when it is wired I would imagine you have a dodgy modem. If it works when it is wired, then you might have a dodgy router.
Try resetting the router back to factory settings. There should be a tiny whole on the back of the router, just stick a pen in it and press the button for a few seconds, and your router will be reset.
